And I am just not ok with that.
That’s why our commitment to health isn't about the number on the scale. It's being the 3% to change the world of dieting.
It's a courageous act of self-love. We can’t hate our way into shape--That’s not the legacy I wanted to leave to my daughters. And it’s one of many reasons I made some drastic changes not just in what I was eating but what I was doing spiritually.
Back when I was dieting, I was only choosing “healthy foods” because I thought it was the "right thing" to do to get the number I wanted. What I thought was that healthy foods meant more weight loss. But that whole time, I didn’t spend even one second thinking about how much I loved my body. I just kept looking in the mirror for change. And taking daily pictures. And looking at my clothing size.
Trendy diets will say they are anti-diet. They say, "There are other ways other than the scale to measure progress!"
And tell you things like
- your clothes will be bigger
- you’ll see it in pictures
- you'll be stronger
Yes, that’s true. But you are still measuring your body. There is nothing wrong with those results, but they are still focused on the BODY, not the healing of SELF when it comes to how we actually see ourselves and treat ourselves.
The way you feel about yourself today does not change because you reach your weight goal or clothing size. If that was true, then all the women who come to see me wouldn't that they wished they were happy with their bodies before they gained the weight.
If you want to love yourself, that work starts immediately now. Your truest version of yourself arrives from making choices in alignment with how much you love yourself today, not how much you want to lose today.
Losing weight doesn’t fill the void of dissatisfaction that has been drained from us for decades through diet culture.
When did it start for you?
For me, it was when I was ten years old, our refrigerator filled with slim fast, and my Mom always talking about how fat she was, and then setting my own first New Years Goal to lose ten pounds in front of my fifth grade class.
Let me repeat. 97% of women hate their bodies. We see it everywhere.
I wonder what percentage started as young as I did. Did you?
And I wonder what percentage of our next generation we are willing to allow this to keep happening.
Deciding you want weight loss doesn’t work for the long haul. I want you to STOP wasting your time.
If you want to truly change your life, today you must decide you are ALL IN. Today you can say, "Commitment requires the courage. I am worth making shifts today because of who I am today, not who I will become."
